Last night, the fashion industry showed up for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s renowned Costume Institute Benefit. Hosted by Vogue’s William Norwich and model Hilary Rhoda, celebrities from the worlds of fashion, film, society, sports, art, business, and music joined together in honor of this year’s corresponding exhibition Punk: Chaos to Couture. There was a wide range of looks last night, and here are our favorites:
This year’s fashion’s Oscars, the Met Gala, was another spectacular evening that showcased amazingly gorgeous gowns. Here’s our pick of top 2012 Met Gala gowns:
The French actress, Marion Cotillard, look absolutely stunning in her Dior gown. We love the sheerness and playfulness on this textured dress.
Anna Wintour looked exceptionally sophisticated in a Schiaparelli-inspired Prada dress. We love the lobster detail on her gown.
From the beaded detail on her gown, to the deco earrings and rich lipstick, Camilla Belle was a classic beauty in Ralph Lauren.
True to her Girl with a Dragon Tattoo alter-ego, Rooney Mara pulled off a gothic yet extremely elegant look in her Givenchy gown.
Who were your favorites at the Met Gala this year?
Oscar-nominated “it-girl” Rooney Mara was spotted wearing one of our newest cuts, the Angelina Cigarette Skinny, while out for coffee in Beverly Hills with boyfriend Charlie McDowell. We have to say, we are pretty excited about this one. We’re huge fans of ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,’ and we never imagined that the actual girl with the dragon tattoo would be photographed in one of our favorite black looks. Mara’s had quite a year with her Oscar nomination, and she’s currently gearing up for a role in the Steven Soderbergh drama ‘The Bitter Pill,’ alongside Jude Law and Channing Tatum.
Fresh off its sellout collaboration with Versace, H&M is showing its next high profile collab, this time with costume designer Trish Summerville. Haven’t heard of her? She’s the creative force behind the dark, sexy costumewear worn by Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara) in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The collection includes lots of separates – hoodies, ripped shirts, slim moto pants, boots, and leather jackets - and hits stores on December 14. Target better step up its collaboration game ASAP!
Directed by David Fincher, the Dragon Tattoo stars Daniel Craig and is based off the best selling trilogy of novels by Stieg Larsson. If the standard trailer is not enough for you, they’ve just released an eight minute extended cut on iTunes.
Sony has been turning up the shock marketing for “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo”, David Fincher’s adaptation of the best selling book by late author Stieg Larsson. First a “mysterious” trailer “leaked” online that the studio claimed had been filmed illegally in a European theater. The gritty, fast-paced cut set to a Trent Reznor and Karon O cover of Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song had the whole web’s attention.
But the trailer, now removed from Youtube and available on the film’s website, left up-and-comer Rooney Mara’s transformation to anti-heroine Lisbeth Salander somewhat to the imagination. Sony has now released a poster that reveals more of the character than we might have expected. You even have to verify your age to view it on the Sony website. If you have seen the original Swedish version of “Dragon Tattoo” starring Noomi Rapace, Mara has some big shoes to fill, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.
We can’t wait for this to hit theaters in December. It looks to be a lot more “Se7en” than “Social Network”, but you never know, it could be the one that finds Fincher the Oscar he’s looking for.
