Last night, the fashion industry showed up for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s renowned Costume Institute Benefit. Hosted by Vogue’s William Norwich and model Hilary Rhoda, celebrities from the worlds of fashion, film, society, sports, art, business, and music joined together in honor of this year’s corresponding exhibition Punk: Chaos to Couture. There was a wide range of looks last night, and here are our favorites:
It’s that time again when people from all over the country gather in the middle of the dessert to showcase their awesome fashion! Oh, and probably listen to some indie band performances. In order to battle the 100-degree weather, you definitely have to be smart about choosing what to wear!
With Coachella just around the corner, we put together an outfit with our spring favorite Teo Shorts. Pair the denim shorts with a loose forest green top (can even pull over your shoulder) to create a fun urban look, or go with the floral lace top for something a little more hipster! If you really want to master the hipster/hobo look, pull over the elastic headband and voilà- you look cute and your hair is in place! Complete the outfit with over-size shades and blinged out jewelry!
One band we are looking forward to seeing is the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who last performed at Coachella in 2007. We love “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie”!

This Fall/Winter 2013, it seems like bright colored fur prints and bags will be all the latest fashion. Versace showed off an electric-yellow zebra stripped coat perfect for catching anyone’s attention on a gloomy day. If you don’t feel like attracting too much attention with a zebra yellow coat, how about toning it down with an animal print bag like Fendi’s pictured above? This would be a fabulous accessory to make any neutral outfit stand out. If brightly colored animal prints are not your thing, than you can still be glam with studded shoes and bags . Studded bags have been around for quite a while, but now the fierce decorations are going to be seen more on shoes. Jimmy Choo’s black pumps feature crystal studs giving the shoes some sparkle without completely going over the top.
Here’s a Fall 2013 RTW collection that has really stood out to us this Fashion Week – 3.1 Phillip Lim. Throughout the collection you’ll see a theme of the ‘girlfriends’ of bikers, and we absolutely love this look! Lim also used rich texture in his designs, including quilting, which you’ll actually see in our upcoming fall collection too! The collection also plays with a subtle, but sophisticated devil-may-care- color palette that we adore! One look we fell in love with is the look in the middle featured above – the outfit has a very cool, goth, warrior-look.
Our Surrealist-inspired pieces that have somewhat of a hidden and symbolic meaning continue, as our newest Acacia Skinny Herringbone Tuxedo Pant was inspired by the idea of having very complicated treatments – one that you might see on silk tops or runway collections. Designer Jennifer Wojinski says, “I wanted details that were somewhat hidden and make you look twice because you are wondering how the treatment was done.”
Although the Acacia Skinny Herringbone Tuxedo Pant is a take on the traditional tuxedo pant, the treatment, folds and pleats on our pants are very hyper-feminine with it fitting perfectly around the leg and extreme detail. This pant is surely a fun pair to dress up with a delicate blouse and nice pair of heels or dress it down with a vintage tee and boots this fall (think concerts, nights out and for a bit of fun at work!).
The Fourth of July, one of our favorite holidays, is just around the corner and it’s the perfect excuse to buy a new ensemble in honor of the USA. Whether you’re taking a longweekend or just enjoying the mid-week break, we put together four stylin’ outfits with our Thalia shorts to keep you cool for that hot summer day, with just enough patriotic flair. And although you won’t actually be wearing an American flag (we hope), but an outfit that emulates it, we are proud to say that you’ll be wearing a product that is 100% Made in the USA.
So if you plan on spending your day at the beach or at a friend’s BBQ, pull off a casual yet chic day look with the Thalia short in Zen, a comfy “subtle nod to the flag” star-printed tank, paired with your trusty red TOMS and a floppy straw hat to keep your face safe from a long day in the sun. If you plan on heading to an evening party, pair our Thalia Zen shorts with a loose striped blouse, natural colored wedges and a nautical bracelet by another Made in the U.S.A. brand, Kiel James Patrick.
Our Thalia short in Rustic Pink has just enough dose of red to add a pop of color to any Independence Day outfit. Pair them with a navy blue striped sweater by The Row (Made in the USA), nude gladiator sandals and Shwood sunglasses (Made in the USA) for a sophisticated nautical look. If you plan to spend your evening watching the fireworks under the stars, the peplum top is definitely on trend right now and an easy evening transition with the Rustic Pink short. Grab a pair of blue wedges and a statement necklace to add to the festive look.
Hair chalking has been around for a little while, and we found that it’s still on trend in pastels. We especially like Rackk and ruin’s DIY attitude, suggesting picking up soft pastels from the art supply store to get the look. There is no need to spend over $30 at the salon for some fun hair color. Try doing two colors on one strand, and styling with a fishtail braid or an up-do to spice up your hairdo every so often. We love Lauren Conrad’s “Cotton candy bun” up-do.
We have “sprung” our clocks forward, and now that just means it’s time to pull out our shorts! This spring we are all about our Hi Rise Thalia short. A classic look found in several colors that you can mix and match with any outfit to dress up or dress down. Versatile and cute – what more could you ask for?
We are sure you’re asking, “What is crackle coated?” Well, it’s a more distressed take on our coated denim. It’s not intended to emulate the leather look, rather coated denim that has been worn over time. Therefore, it looks a little “crackled.” Our crackle coating is available on our Almas Hi Rise Zip Skinny. The Almas is a skinny cut denim that shows off the legs down below, but comes together up top in a slightly higher rise, perfectly suited to the modern woman.
As the trend for pant rise continues to climb, we have released our super high-waisted Harrison Ultra Hi-Rise Flare, which hugs the hips almost up to the belly button. The Harrison is a brand new body style in the HABITUAL line, and also happens to be on the inside cover of our Spring 2012 look book. To style pants like this, you don’t need to over-do it – let the pants do most of the talking. Try an airy top in a solid color like coral with minimal jewelry. You also won’t need to worry about having the perfect shoes, because the pants will cover them, but make sure they are the right height so the hem doesn’t drag on the ground.
