As proponents of both obsessiveness and wardrobe staples, we’re naturally also fans of Self-Service Magazine’s “Obsessions” feature. As the story in the Fall/Winter 2013 issue advises, “Know your basics.” From the fabulous Givenchy leather-and-wool jumpsuit to Saint Laurent’s gorgeous diamanté fishnet, our favorite is this chic wool sweater with an elegant gold stripe by Jil Sander. Style it with a pair of HABITUAL Eve Skinnies and a simple black shoe for an effortless holiday look!
We recently came across this fabulous shop on Etsy called Retro Whale by Los Angeles-based artist, Kelly Puissegur. Kelly creates gorgeous paintings and sketches of everything we love: music, animals, song lyrics, movies and oddities. Her goal is to make affordable art that people can appreciate or relate to in some way. In a recent interview in Antler Magazine, she explains that she named herself Retro Whale because she loves everything 70’s and 80’s and she loves the ocean. We love her quotes, we love her process and we love her art. Here are a couple of our favorite pieces.
On Mondays we all need a bit of a pick me up. For us today it was the bright pop of fashion illustrations by Berlin-based artist and photographer Sabine Pieper. While the figures in many fashion illustrations come off flat, intended to emphasize a dress or look more than the person wearing it, Pieper employs mixed media and a skilled hand turn her “models” into full-on characters. They have so much depth you almost want to meet them. She is best known for illustrating the column “Mademoiselle: Confessions of an Elle girl” for Elle UK. See more of her work on her blog.
