Bands We Love: Imagine Dragons
It was only a year ago that the band members of Imagine Dragons were couch surfing and surviving off of Del Taco before exploding onto the music scene. The indie-rock band was first recognized nationally in November of 2012 when their single “It’s Time” was certified platinum by the RIAA. “It’s Time” gained the attention of Hip-Hop producer Alex Da Kid, who then got the band their first deal with Interscope Records.
So what kind of sound results from an indie-rock band mentored by a hip-hop producer? You get an album meshed with various genres where every song is interwoven with different beats, percussion and guitar melodies. Their album “Night Visions” can be described as a cross between Lil’ Wayne’s lyrics and Coldplay’s electro beats!
The bands’ unique sound can be credited to the city of Las Vegas, where it was formed and developed its musical style. Frontman Dan Reynolds explains he and his three band mates had to compete for attention against show girls and slot machines -forcing them to get creative.
Even the band’s name, Imagine Dragons, is creative. It is actually an anagram in which every letter stands for a phrase that only the band members know!

Who’s Got The Habit: Rihanna
This past month, Rihanna was spotted wearing our Alice Skinny jeans in Vermillion after leaving My Studio Nightclub in Los Angeles! She paired her skinny jeans with a black and white patterned jacket and animal print sneakers! Her plum lipstick definitely completes her fabulous look! The “Diamonds” singer will also be performing at the Grammys this Sunday with Bruno Mars and Sting- a very unlikely trio. We can’t wait to see this performance!
How Can You Change the World?
“How one man changed the world with a pair of scissors.” This man is Vidal Sassoon, the legendary hairdresser, who you probably know through the hair products sold at your local pharmacy. We just recently watched the Vidal Sassoon documentary, although released in 2009, and it is simply inspirational! The movie shows Vidal’s life journey from his childhood days living in an orphanage to his service as an Israeli soldier and finally shows his amazing career as a hairdresser. Just as we have admired Coco Chanel for how she revolutionized the way women dress, Vidal’s vision did that for the hair industry and made it into a craft. And what we love most is that he shared – he shared his knowledge and educated others.

Artist We Love: whyrHymer
This week, we had the honor of previewing our Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 collection at whyrHymer’s gorgeous showroom. The brain behind whyrHymer is designer and maker, Brandon Morrison. Brandon’s wood making began while working as a handyman at a hardware store, where he was able to build more and more wood-related projects for his clients. His work eventually evolved into what whyrHymer is today – a unique collection of custom handmade furniture and lighting. Brandon’s designs are truly one of a kind. Take a look at the photos for yourself, and watch Brandon’s film to take a more in-depth look of whyrHymer’s work.
We had such a wonderful time in his space, and his we thank Brandon and his wife Sundeep for sharing it with Habitual!
