Monday night at the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards many fashion visionaries were recognized and awarded for their innovative designs. Lincoln Center was buzzing as the fashion world combined with Hollywood to celebrate fashion.
Among the many winners were two of our favorite photographers and bloggers who won the Media Award, Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist and Garance Dore of Garance Dore. We absolutely adore their work and praise them for their ability to bring fashion to daily life. And one of the most prestigious honors is the 2012 Womenswear Designers of the Year award. This year the stylish sisters, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, won the award for their collection, The Row. The adored child actresses have now officially made a name for themselves in the fashion world, going up against nominees like Marc Jacobs and Jack McCollough for the win. The award for Best Designer of Accessories went to Reed Krakoff and Billy Reid won for Best Menswear Designer.
The 2012 CFDAs were a night of firsts. Every year a celebrity receives the Fashion Icon Award, except this year, the charismatic winner was not turning any heads. Johnny Depp won the Fashion Icon Award but was not able to make it to the event. Only Depp’s unmistakable, jaw dropping and world renowned fashion style would get people talking without even being at the event!
Intel recently put together an interesting short documentary that examines the creative process of Scott Schuman, aka The Sartorialist, to market the brand to those who value visual expression.
If you are not familiar, Schuman is the street fashion hero and trailblazer, documenting the way real people dress with his camera and sharing it with the world through a blog that attracts around 70,000 readers per day. Schumann was a fashion industry veteran before he decided to start shooting all the “really cool people” he noticed every day on the street and show them in one place. He’s since become one of the most influential people in fashion.
One of our favorite messages from the film is that Scott was never a photo assistant and never pursued a career as a fashion photographer. He just went out and started shooting the people he felt were interesting, developing his own style, and setting himself apart. We love the blog because there is no “fuss” – he focuses on beautiful imagery presented in the simplest way. It also doesn’t hurt that his girlfriend is one of our other favorites, the French fashion blogger Garance Doré.
Intel also created similar mini-documentaries about cellist Zoe Keating and designer Michael Wolff.
As the heat from Coachella has finally cooled down here in LA, we took a minute to select some of our favorite looks from the weekend. As predicted, denim shorts were the big winner at the festival this year.

One of our blogging idols, Garance Dore, also took to the festival and posted shots of some of her top looks in diary form. If you have not visited her blog, her photos always have a casual sexiness with a bit of sunshine. She is also the girlfriend of blogging royal The Sartorialist, Mr. Fashion Blogger himself! Below are some of our favorites from her selection. We hope everyone had a great time!
