Coachella 2013 in Teo Shorts

Coachella

It’s that time again when people from all over the country gather in the middle of the dessert to showcase their awesome fashion! Oh, and probably listen to some indie band performances. In order to battle the 100-degree weather, you definitely have to be smart about choosing what to wear!

With Coachella just around the corner, we put together an outfit with our spring favorite Teo Shorts.  Pair the denim shorts with a loose forest green top (can even pull over your shoulder) to create a fun urban look, or go with the floral lace top for something a little more hipster!  If you really want to master the hipster/hobo look, pull over the elastic headband and voilà- you look cute and your hair is in place!  Complete the outfit with over-size shades and blinged out jewelry!

Shorts: HABITUAL Tate short in Onyx

Ring: Jennifer Zeuner Jewelry Block Love Ring

Bracelet: Michael Kors Skorpios Bracelet

Sunglasses: Thierry Lasry Milfy Sunglasses in Dark Havana

Headband: Deep Gurnani Gold & Turquoise Applique Headband

Tops: Free People American Pie Top in Camo (right), BB Dakota Omni Crochet Top (right)

Shoes: Sam Edelman Gable Strappy Flat Sandals

One band we are looking forward to seeing is the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who last performed at Coachella in 2007.  We love “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie”!

Bands We Love: The Head and the Heart

Head and the Heart

We loved seeing The Head and the Heart at Coachella Music Festival, it was unlike anything we ever imagined. Not only did their music make us want to stand up and dance around, but it also touched our hearts and minds. Originally from Seattle, they optimize the indie/folk genre while also appealing to rock/pop aesthetics. A band made up of five talented guys, it was their one girl, Charity Rose Thielen, stole the show for us.  We haven’t stopped listening to “Lost In My Mind” and “Sounds Like Hallelujah”. Look into tour and concert dates on The Head and the Heart’s website and Facebook; we would love for you to be able to experience them in person! We hope you find that their songs are the perfect summer melody like we have!

Bands We Love: Gotye

Making Mirrors by Gotye

We can’t wait to see the Australian singer Gotye live at Coachella Music Festival in April. Meanwhile, we’ll keep on listening to “Somebody That I Used to Know” on repeat at our offices, featuring Kiwi singer, Kimbra. The dark, sad lyrics mixed with a happy sound make “Somebody That I Used to Know” a fit for a lot of different situations. Read extensive bios on Gotye on his website or his Facebook. Another one of our faves on Gotye’s new Making Mirrors album is “Eyes Wide Open.” We hope you enjoy listening as much as we do!

On Trend: The Alterna-Tux

Two looks from Louis Vuitton Resort 2012

Tuxedo pants have been trending for a season or two, showing up most recently in Louis Vuitton’s Resort 2012 show. We’ve also seen it in punk alterna-tux leather ensembles and even on stage at Coachella (Can anyone identify this band?).

Different takes on the Alterna-tux

We love the new color and textile combinations, like black leather with a white stripe and red pants with black piping. It’s also great to see a variety of silhouettes, from high waisted flares, to straight legs and even skinny cuts.

We’re actually doing our own take on the tuxedo pant for HABITUAL resort 2012.

On the Road: Best Looks from Coachella

As the heat from Coachella has finally cooled down here in LA, we took a minute to select some of our favorite looks from the weekend. As predicted, denim shorts were the big winner at the festival this year.

One of our blogging idols, Garance Dore, also took to the festival and posted shots of some of her top looks in diary form. If you have not visited her blog, her photos always have a casual sexiness with a bit of sunshine. She is also the girlfriend of blogging royal The Sartorialist, Mr. Fashion Blogger himself! Below are some of our favorites from her selection. We hope everyone had a great time!

On the Road: Five Tips for Navigating Coachella Weekend

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is coming up this weekend. Collectively, we’ve made more than a few trips out to Indio, CA, so we thought we would pool our knowledge and pass along our five tips for navigating the type of weekend that can go from “Best day ever” to “Never again” very quickly.

Ace Hotel Palm Springs

Ace Hotel & Swim Club

1. The Ace Hotel. You’ll never get a room now, but if you can finagle your way into the pool, you’ll find a full weekend of Coachella activities. This year’s “Desert Gold” Coachella Weekend at Ace Hotel & Swim Club features a full lineup of bands and DJs, plenty of drinks, free haircuts from Rudy’s Barbershop, DIY Havaianas flip flops and other pop-up shops, and of course lots and lots of good looking people. As a backup plan, check out the Movie Colony Hotel for an authentic, modernist, Palm Springs desert vibe.

2. Rock some denim shorts. It’s HOT in the desert. Wearing denim shorts will keep you cool, but you won’t look like the girl walking around the infield in a bikini bottom thinking she is at the beach. We sent the HABITUAL Teri short in Bliss to some of our favorite musically inclined ladies.

3. Listen to bands. Coachella is after all a music festival. The design office took a poll and this is the HABITUAL preferred lineup for this weekend (in no particular order):  The Kills, PJ Harvey, The Black Keys, City and Colour, The Chemical Brothers, Kanye West, Erykah Badu, Interpol, and She Wants Revenge.

4. Swing by the “Cactarium”. Cactuses are so in right now, and we have seen quite a few shoots happening at the Moorten Botanical Gardens in Palm Springs. With 3,000 different types of cacti and other desert plants, from places as far as Namibia, Baja, Madagascar, Texas and South America, this is one of the more interesting things you will find outside of the Coachella infield. It is especially worth the trip if you are over 25 and need a break from the music, or under 25 and need to escape from the unbearable socialite you ended up sharing a room with.

5. Bring some sunscreen. Cocktails, heat, and lots of skin is a high risk combo.  The sunburn on sunburn on sunburn look some people sport on day three is really not a good one.

Sadly, we are not going this year, but it’s only Wednesday - still plenty of time to change our minds. Full music lineup below:
