Next to our Hello Kitty wine and Karl Lagerfeld Diet Coke, sits a milk carton box filled with water on our desk. Why is our milk carton box filled with water?
It’s called Boxed Water. Boxed Water is in part a sustainable water company, part art project, and part philanthropic project. This innovative and creative concept came from a simple idea, bottled water brand that would be kinder to the environment while also giving back. Not only is this product aesthetically appealing with its fabulous packaging; 76% of each box is made from a renewable resource, trees. If all that wasn’t enough, the company donates 10% of their profit to world water relief foundations, and another 10% to reforestation foundations.
The idea for this milk carton style water “bottle” was born in April of 2008 and was on shelves for the first time in 2009 in the company’s hometown of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Since then, Boxed Water has been growing and now can be found in over 150 stores or restaurants in California alone.
We feel good knowing that when we drink their water “bottle,” we are also helping to plant trees and protecting our forests one sip at a time. Sounds like a great new habit for us!

Monday night at the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards many fashion visionaries were recognized and awarded for their innovative designs. Lincoln Center was buzzing as the fashion world combined with Hollywood to celebrate fashion.
Among the many winners were two of our favorite photographers and bloggers who won the Media Award, Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist and Garance Dore of Garance Dore. We absolutely adore their work and praise them for their ability to bring fashion to daily life. And one of the most prestigious honors is the 2012 Womenswear Designers of the Year award. This year the stylish sisters, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, won the award for their collection, The Row. The adored child actresses have now officially made a name for themselves in the fashion world, going up against nominees like Marc Jacobs and Jack McCollough for the win. The award for Best Designer of Accessories went to Reed Krakoff and Billy Reid won for Best Menswear Designer.
The 2012 CFDAs were a night of firsts. Every year a celebrity receives the Fashion Icon Award, except this year, the charismatic winner was not turning any heads. Johnny Depp won the Fashion Icon Award but was not able to make it to the event. Only Depp’s unmistakable, jaw dropping and world renowned fashion style would get people talking without even being at the event!
This summer, the Hester Street Fair is coming to Hollywood! New York’s favorite outdoor market will host four free events at the lot on Hollywood Blvd and Argyle Avenue. And tomorrow is the premiere event – the Bite Size Food and Craft Festival. There will be over 120 arts and crafts, vintage vendors along with some of LA’s favorite dining in bite size portions. We hear there will also be some live music and beer garden. You will be sure to find us at LA’s Hester Street Fair this weekend! Check out the schedule of events for the rest of the summer here.

The multi-faceted and multi-talented James Franco has further validated his suaveness by adding ‘art curator’ to his already extensive list of accomplishments. The actor-turned student-turned author-turned professor-turned an actor playing an artist (named Franco) on “General Hospital”- turned documentary filmmaker is continuing to wow Hollywood with his newly conceived MOCA exhibit “Rebel”, paying homage to the 1955 James Dean movie “Rebel Without a Cause”.
The exhibit is now open to the public through June 23rd at JF Chen, the Hollywood space of furniture dealer Joel Chen. The venue, along with the pieces on display, further add to the innovative, and widely misunderstood, projects Franco undertakes; as the venue has been slammed as a conflict of interest due to the commercial space and the pieces on display make bold statements through the meshing of pop culture and fine art.
Bringing together other pieces of work including paintings, sculpture, drawing, video installation and multimedia in conjunction with Terry Richardson, Ed Ruscha, Douglas Gordon, Aaron Young, Paul and Damon McCarthy and Harmony Korine, “Rebel” includes stunt-like artwork and multiple films using Franco as the star subject. As the 1955 film explored many taboo topics of the time you can expect to see some thought-provoking work including violent videos, sexual sculptures and subliminal nods to drug use all framed by iconic, Hollywood structures.
Franco has been fascinated and intertwined with the image of James Dean for years and was also captivated by the film this exhibit celebrates as a teenager. His 2001 portrayal of James Dean also earned him a Golden Globe. The 50th anniversary of Dean’s death 7 years ago inspired Franco to come up with an unconventional way to celebrate this icon, and visually portray “the first mainstream American movie that dealt with teenagers on their own terms.” It’s Franco’s idea of using Dean’s “film as a source for inspiration and building off that to create new work” that has us highly intrigued. Whether you’re a film junkie, art freak, or a fan of either James this is something you must take time out of your weekend to experience – and why not, admission is free!

Already a favorite site, Apartment Therapy just got even better. Founded by Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan, Apartment Therapy is the haven for trendy apartment dwellers and design junkies alike. Since the site’s inception, it has been a hub of design and DIY projects. By launching new sections, re-launching all of their sections and even penning a book giving readers 8 steps to transform their apartments into beautiful spaces that suit their style and budget, Apartment Therapy is never short of ideas.
The site’s most unique venture was the launch of its newest section – Apartment Therapy Classifieds. Set up as a marketplace for 5 different cities (New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston and Washington D.C.) the classifieds page allows site visitors to not only digitally ogle beautifully redone apartments but also help other renters in their quest for that perfect couch, lamp, cookware or centerpiece. As always Apartment Therapy continues to inspire people from all over to create “foundations for happy and successful lives…within calm, healthy, beautiful homes.” We will definitely be perusing the classifieds.
One of the funniest ladies on television these days, Sofia Vergara, was spotted wearing HABITUAL Hayworth Flare jeans in Ablaze. The “Modern Family” star was out shopping at SCOOP NYC in New York when she was seen in her Hayworth Flare jeans which she paired with a bright orange leather jacket – the perfect idea for staying warm on a cool day while still adding a fun pop of color for spring.
While Nina Dobrev graced the red carpet in Donna Karan Atelier at the Met Ball, earlier that day she was sporting a more casual look, wearing HABITUAL Black Angelina Cigarette Skinny jeans in New York City. The day after the Met Ball, Nina was spotted again wearing HABITUAL Alice Skinny coated denim jeans in Dark Feather, while leaving the Trump Soho Hotel in NYC with her boyfriend and The Vampire Diaries co-star, Ian Somerhalder. We think Nina effortlessly pulls off the casual look with style and definitely “got the habit” this week in New York!
