As if LACMA didn’t have enough in their 25,000-item costume collection, they recently announced that they are adding 158 couture fashion items thanks to a hefty donation from Ellen A. Michelson. The sumptuous collection includes gowns and daywear from 1880 to 2008, including Balenciaga, Diora, Givenchy, YSL, McQueen, Chanel, among several others. Put together by the acclaimed Dominique Sirop, who currently runs his own haute atelier and previous worked with YSL and Givenchy, the exhibit will focus on the expert craftsmanship, fine detail in tailoring and unique pattern-making.
We cannot wait to see this new exhibit!

We are always looking to pick up new yet productive habits – from eating healthier, to procrastinating less, to working out more, to dressing nicer, to reading more, etc. On a recent flight from New York to Los Angeles, we read “The Power of Less” by Leo Babauta that has definitely encouraged better habits and put a little dent on how we live our lives. “The Power of Less” has taught us how to break down tasks and get rid of the clutter in our life to achieve our goals, and finally empowered us to believe that anyone can accomplish their goals. We are truly inspired by Babauta – he isn’t an expert of any kind or millionaire; just a normal guy who decided to change his life in 2005 and accomplish his goals through better habits. We continue to follow Babauta and his writing on his blog, Zen Habits. We consider this a must among our required reading list!
This week, at the premiere of the new film Movie 43, Chelsea Handler was spotted in our Amalia Skinny jeans in Licorice in Los Angeles. She looked great pairing our jeans with YSL heels! And this is the first time we’ve seen Chelsea in Habitual, we last saw Chelesa in or Addison Motorcycle in Onyx during her show this past November. The new film Movie 43 is a series of interconnected short films following three kids as they search the Internet to find the most banned movie in the world. The film is stacked with stars, including Dennis Quaid, Hugh Jackman, Naomi Watts, Emma Stone, Seth MacFarlane and many more! It hits theaters this Friday – who’s all planning on going to see it?
Starting from a young age producing short stories in grade school, writing has always been an essential part of her life. In addition to currently being Racked LA’s associate editor, Natalie also is BlackBook’s fashion writer, Birchbox’s contributor editor, and writes her own blog, Natalie’s Menagerie. Her work can also be found in a number of noteworthy outlets, including Vogue and Bullett. Based in Los Angeles, Natalie is a fashion writer that is passionate about emerging designers and bringing fresh talent to the forefront. We wanted to learn more about Natalie and find out what trends to look for on the red carpet this award season, so we asked her our five favorite questions…
New York or Los Angeles, and why?
LA — and not just because I was born and raised here. From the heavenly weather to the variety of food to the killer shopping to the picturesque beaches, we’re on permanent vacation here.
Give us a sense of your personal style?
You’re best known for being a fashion and beauty expert, but what do you consider your greatest talent?
Good question! I’m really, really good at memorizing song lyrics. Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise” is my speciality.
What’s your daily habit?
What’s one thing in your closet you could never give up? And what’s your go-to piece in the closet right now?
I could never give up my Calvin Klein denim jacket that I go from a yard sale when I was 14. It fits like a glove. When it comes to current go-tos, I can’t stop wearing this A.L.C. sweater. It’s so soft, and I love the pattern. I wear it at least once a week!
BONUS: What trends do you think we’ll see on the Red Carpet this Award Season?
Lots of white, neutrals and pastels. Superstar stylists will use the opportunity to showcase spring 2013’s strongest looks. Cher Coulter stole my heart at the Globes when she dressed Sienna Miller in this stunner by Erdem.
This week’s stockist spotlight has carried Habitual for the last two and a half years and has been included in the History of Denim and named by Nylon Magazine as one of the top 50 stores in the world. Located in what used to be an original A&P grocery store in Highland Park, IL, a northern suburb of Chicago, E Street Denim Company has customers come from all over the country because of their large selection of denim. E Street Denim Company has been around for over 22 years and houses nearly 12,000 pairs of jeans! Among the 12,000, you’ll find some of Habitual’s favorites, including our Amalia in Licorice, Eve in Licorice, Angelina in French Moss, Amalia in Bayou and Alice Skinnys in Chianti. Here are a couple of photos of Habitual at E Street!

Guess who? Clue: we hear he’s collaborating with Lancome on a new beauty line set to come out this summer and we just adore him…
Although this Canadian indie-pop band, Stars, has been around now for some time – since 1999 – we just recently discovered and fell in love with their music. We first heard Stars when “Dead Hearts” played during the movie “Like Crazy.” And now, already out with their sixth studio album, Stars, recently came out with the album The North this past September. The band consists of five members, who all grew up in Toronto, Torquil Campbell, Christoher Seligman, Evan Cranley, Amy Millan, and Patrick Mcgee. We currently can’t stop listening to “Hold On When You Get Love.” The instrumentals and Millan and Campbell’s vocals put us instantly in a good mood – it’s hopeful, upbeat and makes us want to dance.
From Amy Pohler sitting on George Clooney’s lap to Jodie Foster’s semi-confessional speech to Jennifer Lawrence’s adorable acceptance speech, the 70th Golden Globes was definitely a night to remember. Of all of the gorgeous gowns, here were the dresses we won’t forget:
Jessica Alba presented last night in a gorgeous coral gown by Oscar de la Renta. From her dress to her hair, make up and accessories, she looked fabulous head to toe.
Kate Hudson looked fabulously stunning in a Alexander McQueen gown. We love the black with gold accents – this mom of two looked great!
Jennifer Lawrence went home with a Golden Globe for Best Actress for her amazing performance in “Silver Linings Playbook.” We think she also the stole the show last night in Dior Haute Couture & Chopard.
